LA Fitness shooter George Sodini posted a video on YouTube titled “Hide from Emotion” around a year before he shot three women and himself to death. In a short face-to-camera speech he describes how he distracts himself from his problems.

George Sodini entered a gym in Collier Township, about 10 miles south of Pittsburgh, and opened fire. He walked into a Latin dance class full of around 20 women, announced himself to be a police officer, turned out the lights then started shooting.

A 53-year-old man, thought to be a Miley Cyrus stalker, was arrested by police in Tybee Island, Georgia. Mark Mclead told the booking officer he was Miley Cyrus’s boyfriend. He was booked on two misdemeanor charges but released 24 hours later on condition he turns up to court on September 1, 2009.

A major bank heist in Baghdad saw a vicious group of robbers armed with silenced weapons steal local currency worth $6.5 million.

A mentally ill San Antonio, Texas, woman decapitated her baby claiming the devil made her do it. Otty Sanchez was charged with the capital murder of her 3 1/2-week-old son Scott Wesley Buchholtz-Sanchez. 

23-year-old New Jersey man Daniel Bark was arrested for the hit-and-run killing of American Idol season 7 and 8 contestant Alexis Cohen.

Sarah Palin’s unexpected resignation speech was spurred on by an imminent federal indictment for embezzlement, according to several reports. No wonder her speech was more incoherent and bumbling than usual.

John Dillon Wood shot his wife and two children to death in their gated community home in Orlando, Florida. He then turned the gun on himself.

An 89-year-old white supremacist is believed to have shot several people at Washington’s Holocaust Museum. The gunman, reported to be James W. Von Brunn, was himself hit in the head by gunfire as security guards returned his fire. He is in custody. Early reports suggest he entered the building the started firing “indiscriminately.”

Two former State Department employees were charged with spying for Cuba over a thirty-year period.

51-year-old Scott Roeder was arrested as a “person of interest” after the murder of late-term abortion doctor George Tiller on May 31, 2009. The doctor was shot and killed in the foyer of his place of worship, the Reformation Lutheran Church. Up to a dozen people witnessed the shooting.

Off-duty police officer Omar Edwards was shot and killed by a plain clothes cop. Edwards was pursuing a car thief with his gun drawn when he was spotted by three other plain clothes cops. One of the officers fired six times, hitting Edwards twice. It’s not clear whether a warning was issued.

A 17-year-old girl from Hoke County, North Carolina, is believed to have run away with the nine-month-old baby she was babysitting.

Branislav Peranovic, an orthodox Serbian priest running a church-backed drug rehabilitation center, was removed from his position after video footage showed patients being beaten. The excuse?  It’s all part of the “therapy” at Crna Reka center in southern Serbia and the patients’ parents give there consent.

High school teacher from Chicago Jennifer Espinosa admitted to a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy – a former student.
