Erik Bonite – AKA Ely the Nazi – acted as leader to an “cell” of Russian immigrant neo-nazis in Israel. He and seven other gang members were jailed for between one and seven years, 14 months after their arrests in September 2007. The youths – all the men are between 16 – 19 – have weak ties to Judaism. Under Israel’s law of return, anyone with at least one Jewish grandparent can become a citizen
They gang were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, assault, racial incitement and the distribution of racist materials. Interestingly, perhaps understandably, there is no law against neo-Nazism in Israel. Bonite himself received the maximum sentence of seven years.
The youths made videos of themselves of attacking immigrants.
