Naughty, naughty, Miss. Hause. A part-time teaching aide in Ohio was convicted of allowing minors to drink in her presence. Three cheerleaders were sipping Smirnoff in Mary Ellen Hause’s basement, Hause joined in the fun, someone took a photo and posted it on Facebook.
According to Ohio law, no-one “shall knowingly allow any underage person to remain in or on the place while possessing or consuming beer or intoxicating liquor,” unless a parent is present and approves.
The guilty verdict was returned but the sentence was truly hysterical: 30 days in jail, a $500 fine, trash pickup duty and – here’s the really stupid part – three years of probation that prohibits her from drinking alcohol or having it in her house. Plus the photo at the center of the trial was discovered by a Facebook snoop at the school, Resource Officer Don Wilson who spends time trawling through students Facebook accounts looking for incriminating evidence…or perhaps just looking.
