Stadium-filling bed-wetters Coldplay were up for album of the year and two other prizes at the 2009 Grammy Awards.
The band’s multi-colored, Sgt. Peppers-style jackets confirm that they think themselves as a serious musical force for the annals of history. Unlikely, but the band have given themselves a fighting chance to redeem themselves from Martin’s overbearing influence after producer Brian Eno barred Chris Martin from early jam sessions for the next Coldplay album. Martin said as they accepted best album prize: “”We’re not, of course, the heaviest of rock bands, as you may have noticed.” Ain’t that the truth. Katy Perry, amongst a slew of others, also performed at the show.
